Manitoba Archives vs. Civic Audiorim

Archives

Vaughan Street (orig. 1932, additions 1975).

Only recently, I was surprised to learn that The Manitoba Archives building on Vaughan was once The Civic Auditorium--one time Winnipeg's main concert hall.

So many buildings, so many secrets....

Having spent 1000's of hours in this structure I can say - without doubt it is one of Winnipeg's best kept secrets.

A couple of years ago, I went on one of those Open Doors tours they hold in the spring and toured the Archives building. Pretty cool to see what it used to look like on the inside with a stage that sat in between a small and a large hall.

My older sisters remember actually going there for some concerts and dances not long before they closed it up.

Come and explore both the Archives and the Leg Library! The Civic Auditorium was host to art and history exhibitions, concerts, conventions, and roller skating!

I went to more then a few rock shows there in my youth. Mostly local bands. It also housed a museum at one time.
