Alycia's (Closed)

Alycia's

McGregor Street. Not having a Ukrainian Baba, I've been faced with the dilemma of where to get my perogy fix, now that Alycia's has permanently closed its doors. Suggestions welcome.

Oh no! Alycia's has closed? Alas, another Winnipeg institution gone.

In addition to anon's comments above, I can add that a lot of Ukrainian churches have groups that make and sell perogies each week as a fundraiser.

I can personally vouch for the ones made each Wednesday at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church on Bannerman... definitely baba quality and available for a song. Order ahead.

I hate to say it, but I last ate at Alycia's in June 2010 and the writing was on the wall then... I'm not sure if the old guard had passed it on or not, but the quality was no longer there. It's not exactly in the neighbourhood, but Sevala's on 126 Victoria Ave West in Transcona has always been excellent in my opinion. It's a shame... another Winnipeg institution gone.
