Amazing photographs. It gives the city a look I've never really seen. I actually don't live in Winnipeg, I live about an hour outside of it, in Gimli. Thought I've been living in Manitoba for the past 5 years, since I was 16, and been to Winnipeg many, many times, I 've still haven't seen most of the city. Beautiful work! Can't wait to see more.

I've never seen these places with the eyes of your pics. I live in Winnipeg since 2008 and I hate this city. I dream with the day my husband will decide we should move from here. However; your photos are wonderful. I wish I had your eyes to see this farm old town with a better perspective.

Wow! I've lived in winnipeg my whole life, and I've always seen this city as a beautiful, mysterious place. Mysterious because I guess I'm still a kid and I honestly don't get around the city much, and I'm too young to have a night life. Wow! This site is great. I live in Winnipeg but am from Ashern - about two hours north of the city, pretty close to Steep Rock. I am taking courses at PrairieView in Winnipeg, and am absolutely in love with all of these photos. Just awesome. Great work!

If you click on any photo, you will be taken to that photo's Flickr page. Some of the shots will have the technical details posted alongside them.

Many won't, though. These ones are HDR images (high dynamic range), which are composites of several shots, each shot at a different exposure. It's a really interesting technique that not only enhances the dynamic range of a scene, but also brings out details and textures that get completely lost with traditional images.

I shoot with a Pentax K-7, by the way. Up until recently I was shooting with a Pentax K10, and occasionally I'll shoot with a Panasonic Lumix LX3.

I love this site!

I once met a cab driver in Victoria who was originally from Somalia, and he told me about how he spent his very first night on Canadian soil, in Winnipeg, on a frigid January day.

He asked his friend "Is this a Muslim city?" His friend responded "why would you say that?", and he replied: "Well, everyone here is completely covered from head to toe except for their eyes!"

I live in the Chicago area and I must say that a city of almost 700,000 people in the middle of nowhere, with even more godawful weather than what I have to endure, is quite fascinating. I will be visiting your wonderful city sometime in 2009. I really am looking forward to it, thanks in part to your great photography.
