A couple additional shots of Roy's Florist today (Notre Dame Avenue). Really, storefronts in Winnipeg just don't come any better than this: Sleek architecture; gorgeous, eye-catching neon signage; and a well-thought-out window display.

Roy's is a throw back to the days when business owners gave a shit about the image they put out onto the street. What the hell happened in the last 30 years that has made it acceptable for these business owners to turn a blind eye to aesthetics?

Stuart Machinery Co. Warehouse, Main Street, (built 1909, demolished 2011).

This one hurts. Although the Yellow Warehouse was never of any real architectural significance, it was a handsome, solid building nonetheless (despite its garish paint job). More importantly, it was arguably the most visible component of what was until now an incredibly intact streetscape of turn-of-the-century architecture along the North Main strip.

The building might have been falling apart, but its character will never be duplicated. Demolition is taking quite a while, so you have time to go and say your final goodbyes before it's gone forever.
